How to secure bitcoin: Securing Bitcoins

Security is just as critical with Bitcoin as it is with your personal bank account. The more securely you can access your bitcoins, the less likely anyone will be to catch them. When asked to provide a password, for example, make sure it is unique. Do not use any password that you use on any other website, in case that website is hacked.

When using any online service, look for additional security such as two-factor authentication. With two-factor authentication (2FA), even if someone else finds out your password, they will also need to access your second level password which is usually reset every 20-30 seconds using a device like a smartphone. Always enable this additional security feature immediately if it is offered.
