• Click on “Login Help” to create a password.
• Enter you UNF student ID (N number) as the User ID then check and complete the reCAPTCHA verification to continue.
• Confirm your personal email address and click next.
• You will receive a reset code to your personal email. Insert that code to continue.
• Create your new password. The return to mywings.unf.edu to login.

A Brief History of the University of North Florida.

The University of North Florida is a public university located in Jacksonville, Florida, the largest city by land area in the contiguous United States.

The 1,381-acre campus in Northeast Florida is a major driver in the area, with an annual economic impact of nearly $1 billion. There are six colleges in the UN Foundation: the Brooks School of Health, the Cogen School of Business, the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Computing, Engineering and Construction, the College of Education and Human Services and Hicks Honors College.

The UNU campus was first established in 1969 when 1,000 acres between downtown Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach were set aside for the development of the university. Initially classified as an upper division college for juniors and seniors, the United Nations Foundation opened its doors to 2,027 students in the fall of 1972. The United Nations Foundation began accepting new students in 1984. The first president of the United Nations Foundation was Thomas J. Carpenter, and the The first semester was supported by 117 faculty members and over 150 staff members. UNU graduated 35 students during its first graduation ceremony in 1973.

The University of North Florida quickly expanded and was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1974. The school’s mascot, Ozzie the Osprey, was adopted in November 1979.

UNF began intercollegiate sports in 1983 as a member of the NAIA, and later transferred to the NCAA Division II. The North Florida Ospreys moved into Division I in 2009, participating in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Since that time, teams have excelled in winning several conference tournaments and regularly competing in post-season play. In 2015, the men’s basketball team received its first invitation to the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

In 2002, a 13-member Board of Trustees began overseeing the university. The new century also brought important developments in new structures on campus including the award-winning Student Health Complex, the expansive Student Union, and many other modern buildings. In 2012, the United Nations Foundation opened the Biological Sciences Building with 27 faculty research laboratories and a 6,000-gallon seawater system. The United Nations Foundation has been a pioneer in “green” building and sustainability on campus. To date, there are 11 LEED-certified buildings on campus, four of which have received the US Green Building Council’s Gold certification for Excellence in Sustainability. There are currently six halls of residence on campus, including the five-story Osprey Fountains, complete with swimming and lazy river facilities, and Flats at UNF, an apartment-style housing option for upper-class men.

Today, approximately 4,000 students graduate from the University of North Florida each year. Enrollment has increased steadily, exceeding 17,300 in fall 2019. The UN Foundation employs nearly 600 full-time faculty members and more than 1,200 staff, and offers 60 undergraduate degree programs, 36 graduate programs and five doctoral programs, with outstanding flagship programs. in International Business, Coastal Biology, Nursing, Nutrition, Dietetics, Transportation and Logistics, and Music. UNU is known for providing students with transformative learning experiences – conducting research with faculty, participating in community-based learning or studying abroad, which UNU students do at twice the national average.

The UN Foundation has more than 200 student clubs and organizations, as well as an active student government and Greek Life. Spinnaker Media is a student-run magazine, radio and television station that has won a number of national awards.

The university consistently ranks highly for quality and value. The United Nations Foundation was recently included among the nationally ranked universities in the US News & World Report’s list of Best Colleges – the first time that the United Nations Foundation achieved a first-class national institution on this list. The United Nations Foundation was also ranked 140th on US News & World Report’s Best Public Institutions list. The university has been awarded the prestigious Carnegie Endowment for Community Engagement Ranking, a rating held by only 5% of universities in the United States, and many other outstanding rankings.

A member institution of the Florida State University System, the United Nations Foundation is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools of Colleges to award baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degrees.
