What is a Tanzania Royal Tour and its Historical Back Ground?

petergreenberg.com describes the royal tour as “a groundbreaking series of television specials, produced and hosted by Emmy Award-winning journalist Peter Greenberg, showcasing countries in a way no visitor has ever seen.” Guided by heads of state, the show aims to “provide viewers’ access to extraordinary sites, historical monuments and a cultural experience”.

to put it in context. The Royal Tour Initiative announcement was a continuation of a major campaign the President has undertaken since taking the helm of this nation on March 19, 2021, following the untimely death of the sitting president, Dr John Pompey Magufuli.

From the start, SSH announced its intention to inclusive and to “re-open Tanzania to the world” economically and diplomatically. This was followed by a number of ideological/political-strategic statements and shifts towards aspiration to totalitarianism both at home and abroad, and away from protectionism. For example, the decision to ease work permit application and tax collection method sent positive signals to investors. It will subsequently engage in a higher trend towards institutionalizing the challenge areas through a comprehensive review of policy, laws and regulations through improved dialogue through sectoral task forces.

This approach quickly described her leadership style and commitment to reviving international relations. This was followed by a series of links.

To date, at least four major missions have been undertaken. These are, Mission East Africa, Mission Europe, Mission Middle East and Mission USA.

Starting at home, SSH traveled to Uganda on April 11, 2021 to launch the $3.55 billion East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP); The Hoima – Tanga oil pipeline project of 1,445 km, which was postponed in mourning for the death of President Magufuli.

SSH will tour Kenya on May 4, 2021, to reopen trade between the region’s two major economies. As of March 2022, ten trade barriers have been resolved with another 14 by the June 2022 deadline.

On July 16, 2021, SSH visited Burundi, and signed eight cooperation agreements before heading to Rwanda on August 2, 2021, where it witnessed the signing of four bilateral agreements.

Next stop will be Europe, where she will tour France and EU headquarters in Brussels, Belgium in February of this year. She received a €1.15 trillion grant from the European Commission to fund various development projects – and opened some projects that had been frozen due to ideological differences. Tanzania will also be among the African countries that will benefit from the 150 billion euros pledged at the EU-AU summit.

In the same month, on February 26, 2022, SSH met Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ruler of Dubai while attending the Expo 2020 Dubai. It will see the signing of 36 Memoranda of Understanding worth 7.49 billion Dollars are set to create about 200,000 new jobs over four years.

And now, back to the royal tour. Unlike the other three, which seem traditional, the latter is a completely new initiative under the “Tanzania Rebranding Vision”, targeting a specific market, the United States. It’s sponsored content – intended to go beyond travel by driving both tourism and investments.

The delegation that accompanied the President said that it was a huge step forward. However, on a public level, this bigger picture is perhaps so well known to the team close to the project, it’s no wonder soon after the film was completed, promoted, and premiered in New York and Los Angeles, California, the media space was awash with discussions on the same.

This disruption is massive, to say the least. One could say there was a ferocious cry for clarity for the masses back home.
