Latest News Today: Rife Corruption Reported In Education Sector 2022

A recently published report by Corruption Watch has revealed allegations ranging from abuse of power, corruption, bribery, and poor management in some South African education-related domains.

While giving further details on the implications relating to the findings, Melusi Ncala, a senior researcher for Corruption Watch, stated that prospective employees in the sector were among the exploited.

The people exploited are students or people seeking employment and that is how it manifests.

The organisation’s senior further stated that according to the report whistleblowers were reluctant to expose corruption, as they feared putting their lives in danger.

In addition to this, the report emphasised issues concerning mismanagement, theft of money and resources, victimisation and harsh treatment of whistleblowers, and inefficient and pointless resource exploitation.

Gauteng constitutes the majority of those implicated in the damning report’s findings from the schooling sector through to the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.

This includes members or individuals who occupy positions of authority in the sector such as teachers, members of school governing bodies as well as lecturers and administrators, who would also subject learners and students to sextortion.

Corruption Watch says that upon availing the report to the public, they received assurance from the government that those responsible will be held accountable for the transgressions. However, the organisation says that despite all the work that they did, there has been little to no action to hold those accused of these allegations responsible.
